May is shaping up to be a banner month at Aguamilpa. Clients are averaging 300+ bass over the course of a three-day trip, with many boats hitting 60–100 fish per day. The lake is fishing hot—and the crankbait bite is king.
Dark-colored crankbaits are absolutely dominating right now. If you’re headed our way soon, pack your crank arsenal. They’re pulling in strong, healthy fish in the 3 to 6 lb range, and the biggest of the season so far topped 8 lbs.
Other productive baits include:
-
Watermelon Senkos
-
Jigs (especially black/blue)
-
Topwater (spotty but exciting when it hits)
But if you’re looking to keep rods bent all day? Cranks, cranks, and more cranks.
What to Expect:
-
Daily Catch Rate: 60–100 bass per angler
-
Trip Totals: 300+ fish over 3 days
-
Best Lure: Dark crankbaits, hands down
-
Biggest Fish So Far: 8+ lbs
The big mamas are lurking. It’s just a matter of time.
